My ex and I did our divorce paperwork ourselves (a mistake, I now realize) and have a dispute involving less than $1000 regarding payment of health insurance premiums during our separation. The agreement states whom would provide the insurance, but is silent about who would pay. My ex is threatening to take me to court because I have not reimbursed her for those costs, and says she will make me pay the legal fees relating to non-compliance with the agreement. (There is no provision in the agreement about who would pay legal fees for any future disputes regarding interpretation.) It makes no sense to me to sue over such a small sum, but she does not act rationally and I am concerned that if she would sue, I may need to pay both the insurance costs and the legal fees. How likely is it that if she sues, I could be responsible for legal fees as well?
