I have an employment agreement but company is asking to go part time and be paid half. If I refuse will I be terminated for cause ?
Attorney Pam is correct.
And, frankly, I see a lot of "employment contracts" that are not really "contracts".
You would likely get the answers you seek via a face to face consultation with a lawyer familiar with most aspects of employment law, which can be esoteric.
It depends on the specific terms of the agreement. You should work with an experienced lawyer to review the agreement and help you determine what are your rights under the agreement.
Ms. Holcombe is correct, you will need to have your Employment Agreement reviewed. Seek out an attorney of your choosing to learn your rights and discuss options. All the best.
Unfortunately, no attorney can advise without reviewing the terms of the employment contract itself. If the request to go to part time is related to the Covid-19 outbreak, as a practical matter, it might be wise to negotiate with your employer as this will hopefully be a temporary situation. It would be well worth your while to engage an employment attorney to review your contract and draft a written addendum to your employment contract regarding any modification to protect your interests.
