I resigned from my last employer in December 2018 and began Freelancing/cleaning homes. My business which I operate under an EIN number but have not yet filed my first full year's taxes for has taken a decline due to the increase in local illnesses in the last month and now the mandated health laws to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Since my business is a non-essential business and will be fined if caught operating, I want to know what I can do as far as unemployment/loss of income during this time besides the obvious applying for remote work. I hear I am not eligible to receive unemployment as a freelancer and that my only option is to take out a small business loan or disaster relief loan. Please let me know what my actual options are.
You should be able to file for unemployment. You may alo be able to apply for a disaster relief small business loan through the SBA. Look into that. Also, these are unique times so keep abreast on any legislation as there are many people in your shoes and the local and federal government should be passing legislation to try and help.
