Our school district has a handbook posted on their web site from the school year 2005-2006. I am disputing a rule change in the 2008-2009 handbook. My question is which is considered official the website or the hard copy?

NY State Secondary Education Tenure

Are there any laws on the books for what is required of a schools superintendant to not grant a prospective teacher candidate tenure? A friend of mine is being told that she will not be receiving tenure after completing her three year probationary period at the conclusion of this academic year. She is a highly regarded teacher by her students, parents and co-workers. It is believed that she is not being granted tenure so that the principal can bring in a personal contact next year. To make matters worse she divulged to the ''Super'' that she is getting divorced from her cheating husband. Even with all the personal stress outside of work, her quality of Special Ed teaching has not suffered. Does she have any rights, or is she at the whim of the ''Super''?

I was recently involved in a private meeting at my university that was audio recorded. I was made aware it was being recorded and I was the subject of the meeting. Do I have the right to ask for a copy of that recording?

Totalitarianism Simulation Legal??

I go to a NorCal public highschool. I

am a sophmore. We are learning

about totalitarianism. We are

starting a simulation that will last 4

weeks. The simulation is that

everyone in the class is inferior to the

S.O.CK(Supreme Omnipotent

Champion of Knowledge). The rules

are that we must obey all of the

S.O.CKs rules. The rules include the

normal no ipods, phones, disruptive

behavior and some ridiculous

demands such as no wearing blue

jeans, anything yellow or blue, no

negative thoughts towards anything,

even to the weather, and 5 good

deeds to an upperclassmen a week. I

know that we are learning about

Totalitarianism, but if i lived back

then I would have revolted, like I

plan to do now. Should my g.p.a be

affected because I wore blue jeans?

...Because I said the weather was

crummy? Ultimately, is this fair?? If

it isn't what should I do? If I wear

jeans I will be docked points. My

teacher says I can go into the

negatives. What should I do??

tuition remission denied due to disability?

My husband teaches at an independent school, and our children are entitled to 100% tuition remission if they are accepted, which is worth over $300,000. However, our 4 year old son was denied admission because he has a disability (mild autism, though high IQ). Do we have any rights in this matter?

Is the principal allowed to scream, resulting in spit on face, and threaten a child, plus, call parent at work and scream at them?

Hipaa Law

A parent recently complained my clearance to wrestle was not accurate and went to the school board where she and the principle called my doctor and requested that they tell them whether or not i actually went and seen them and if i was cleared to wrestle..They also called the state athletic assoctiation and told them that my clearance was fals......the doctor immediatly denied them and informed my parents of the incident Is there anything that i can sue them for doin any of this?

use of an A.K.A .form

Is there a form that can be used to change the spelling of your first name (i.e. Dione to Dyonne) so that it can be used for forms/records for schools? Someone submitted admission forms for colleges but he changed the spelling of his first name and has been using it since kindergarten. Can an A.K.A. (also known as) be signed and notorized using both spellings?

There has been a company who supposably has taken over my students loans which I am in the arrears for. I want to know if I verbally tell them not to call my home is there a certain amount of time they have to consider this until I can get it to them in writing?

IEP students and Standardized Testing

My child has and IEP. Can the school distict force me to make him take the PSSA test? If they can, what accomodations can I get for him during that exam. I am asking more emotional and physical accomodations than academic. My child has serious muscle tone issues and remaining in one place or position for even short periods of time is painful to him. He hasn't the strength in his hands to fill out the small circles with a #2 pencil for hours. His eyes do not focus well and he often has to hae things read to him in order to avoid serious headaches. I have found confusing and conflicting answers to this question. My husband is a Catholic, though not a practicing one, should we just opt out of the testing based on religious beliefs (though this would be less than a true reason for doing so as we have no issues with the scientific teachings) The school where he is enrolled originally agreed to let me scribe for him in the test, but the night before they came up and said that I could not even be in the room. No stranger could possibly be familiar enough with my child to know when his physical limitations are being reached. (i.e. when to push and when to accomodate).

Injury in a CT College

What should I receive for information if I am injured in a CT College? Should there be a first report of injury filed? Should there be accomodations to assist me? Can I be granted a leave of absence? They say I need to withdraw. What are my rights, where can I find out what my rights are?

Independant Study Program , Ca Public School System

My son is in 11th grade in a Ca Public School System. He has been in that school district since the 7th grade. I reside in Pa. I also have sole legal custody of him and it has been that way since he was 9 months old. I had been going thru a difficult time period at that time. This past Christmas 2008 my son was placed on a plane by his father and sent packing to me in Pa. They had been having some issues for awhile now and I know this was best. Since I have been in constant communication w/ the school over the years (esp. of late) they are aware of the issues going on in that home. When they were to return from Christmas break, since he was still w/ me I IMMEDIATELy made phone calls to inform them of the situtation. The councelor offered to try getting him into the Indep. Study Pro., was given the ok by Administrator to do so. Then...a day later we received a call saying no they could not do that due to me having sole custody of him. That technically his education(since 7 th grade) is invalid due to this and it was an error on their part. What can I do ? How is this fair to him?

Special Education Law

The school district is out of compliance and has done many things to destroy my son, they are pushing him out of school. The district is currently using a ''Prior Written Notice'' form to serve as my son's IEP. Which is not in compliance with the law. They refuse to provide him with the appropriate services and accomodations that is needed for him to access his education and curriculum. He is very intelligent but is currently failing. He has been called a retarded little ESE kid, records have been falsified, etc. I study the laws concerning these matters and can not get the district to bring themselves into compliance. My son is the one whom is suffering through all this. He is not being provided a Free and Appropriate Public Education and I have documentation to prove it. What can I do to help my son? Please help.

Financial Aid

I was told by Ashford University,

when enrolling in an online degree

completion program that the first

course would be free, along with the

books. When, after starting the initial

class, I could not get anyone to

review my transcripts and inform me

exactly how many units they would

be applying towards the degree- I left

the (free) class. They then took

$2000.00 out of my financial aid.

This is totally unethical. Is it illegal?

It should be. I can't get anyone to

call me back from financial aid. They

won't even tell me what the

$2000.00 was applied towards. Even

if the class hadn't been free (as I was

told it was) the class would be around

1000.00 not 2000.00. Do I have any

Appealing a Suspension

I am appealing my college suspension. I did not drop two summer classes that were on my schedule and then for my fall semester (second semester at the school) received a 2.46. What would be the best arguments to make for reinstatement? I do have a documented reading disability and ADHD inattentive type. Any advice on what my defense should contain?
