Online gambling is illegal in Illinois, where I live. But my question is, what if the tournament (poker) is free to enter but has a real money prize for winners. What is the legality of a free-to-enter poker tournament in a state where online gambling is illegal?

I have some experience with online gaming ventures. Is your question that you want to hold a tournament ONLINE and then pay money to the winner? What, if anything, must players pay to enter, if at all?
