Was told I needed to file form 982 with my taxes, as I was discharged in a no assets chapter 7 bankruptcy in the tax year for which I am filing. I did not receive any 1099-C forms from the creditors. The bankruptcy was filed jointly with my husband, and taxes will be filed jointly as well. I was able to complete questions 1 and 2 of Part I of form 982, but do not understand part 2 or 3, or know if need to attach anything with form 982. Any help is greatly appreciated!
You use it only if you get a 1099C, to explain why the income is not taxable. No 1099s, no form needed.
