My ex and I have a 2-2-5-5 custody schedule of our young kids. If the government orders a mandatory quarantine, with limited reasons to leave home due to coronavirus, what do we do? Can we still travel to exchange the kids or do the kids have to remain with the parent they were with at the start of the “shelter in place” order?
If either you or your ex are subject to a mandatory quarantine due to someone in the household testing positive for the virus then, I suppose, the reasonable thing to do depends on which household the child is in at the time of the quarantine. If the child is in the non-quarantined house, then the child should not travel back to the household that is quarantined until the quarantine is lifted. If the child is in the household that is quarantined, the child should not travel out of that house until the quarantine is lifted. If neither house is under quarantine, then the child should be exchanged in compliance with the court order. If the public is placed on even more restrictions, then the parents should consult and agree on how the court order can be complied with, within the limits of the public restrictions placed by governmental agencies, or determine what accommodations to the custody schedule work best for your families and the child.
