My grandmother passed away a year ago and I know her will was in the name of her 3 children. I also know that if one of them was deceased, in this case my father, it was passed to the grandchildren. However we can't get an answer from my aunt or uncle as to what was left or even if the will has been probated. Is this public record?

First check with the Surrogate's Court located in the County where your Grandmother resided to see whether the will was filed. If it has not been filed, I suggest that you retain the services of an attorney to make inquiries on your behalf. Sometimes a letter from an attorney will get the answers you are looking for.
