do i have recourse against my employer if they are telling other employees and other people that i did something i didnt do? Theft to be extact do they have to keep it queit b/c they fired me for lack of preformance not theft but they are telling other employees they are going after me for theft??

Here's the more important issue, will they call the police at some point? You might want to meet with an attorney before they do.
