18 year old moving out - can parents stop this?
I've heard about a law that allows parents to appeal to the courts to stop their 18 year old child from moving out if they haven't graduated from highschool yet. Is this a real law? If so, would the courts even look at it if the 18 year old in question only had 2-3 more months of highschool remaining, or would it just get thrown out? (This is assuming all the paper work and everything is in by the child's 18th birthday.) If it's a real law, I want to know as much as you can tell me about it, please.

The short answer is no. Under Washington law a person is considered to have reached the age of majority at 18. This means that they can do as they wish, including moving out of the parents' home without the parents' consent.
